    Finding More Relevance: Propagating Similarity on Markov Random Field for Image Retrieval

    To effectively retrieve objects from large corpus with high accuracy is a challenge task. In this paper, we propose a method that propagates visual feature level similarities on a Markov random field (MRF) to obtain a high level correspondence in image space for image pairs. The proposed correspondence between image pair reflects not only the similarity of low-level visual features but also the relations built through other images in the database and it can be easily integrated into the existing bag-of-visual-words(BoW) based systems to reduce the missing rate. We evaluate our method on the standard Oxford-5K, Oxford-105K and Paris-6K dataset. The experiment results show that the proposed method significantly improves the retrieval accuracy on three datasets and exceeds the current state-of-the-art retrieval performance

    Effect of gut microbiome regulated Taohong Siwu Decoction metabolism on glioma cell phenotype

    IntroductionTo establish a new model for exploring the mechanism of the gut microbiome and drug metabolism, we explored whether Taohong Siwu Decoction acts after metabolism by intestinal flora under the premise of clarifying the interaction between intestinal flora and drug metabolism.MethodsTaohong Siwu Decoction (TSD) was fed to germ-free mice and conventional mice, respectively. The serum from both groups of mice was removed and co-cultured with glioma cells in vitro. The co-cultured glioma cells were compared separately for changes at the RNA level using RNA-seq technology. The genes of interest in the comparison results were selected for validation.ResultsThe differences in the phenotypic alterations of glioma cells between serum from TSD-fed germ-free mice and normal mice were statistically significant. In vitro experiments showed that Taohong Siwu Decoction-fed normal mouse serum-stimulated glioma cells, which inhibited proliferation and increased autophagy. RNA-seq analysis showed that TSD-fed normal mouse serum could regulate CDC6 pathway activity in glioma cells. The therapeutic effect of TSD is significantly influenced by intestinal flora.ConclusionThe treatment of tumors by TSD may be modulated by intestinal flora. We established a new method to quantify the relationship between intestinal flora and the regulation of TSD efficacy through this study

    FATRER: Full-Attention Topic Regularizer for Accurate and Robust Conversational Emotion Recognition

    This paper concentrates on the understanding of interlocutors' emotions evoked in conversational utterances. Previous studies in this literature mainly focus on more accurate emotional predictions, while ignoring model robustness when the local context is corrupted by adversarial attacks. To maintain robustness while ensuring accuracy, we propose an emotion recognizer augmented by a full-attention topic regularizer, which enables an emotion-related global view when modeling the local context in a conversation. A joint topic modeling strategy is introduced to implement regularization from both representation and loss perspectives. To avoid over-regularization, we drop the constraints on prior distributions that exist in traditional topic modeling and perform probabilistic approximations based entirely on attention alignment. Experiments show that our models obtain more favorable results than state-of-the-art models, and gain convincing robustness under three types of adversarial attacks

    AKEM: Aligning Knowledge Base to Queries with Ensemble Model for Entity Recognition and Linking

    This paper presents a novel approach to address the Entity Recognition and Linking Challenge at NLPCC 2015. The task involves extracting named entity mentions from short search queries and linking them to entities within a reference Chinese knowledge base. To tackle this problem, we first expand the existing knowledge base and utilize external knowledge to identify candidate entities, thereby improving the recall rate. Next, we extract features from the candidate entities and utilize Support Vector Regression and Multiple Additive Regression Tree as scoring functions to filter the results. Additionally, we apply rules to further refine the results and enhance precision. Our method is computationally efficient and achieves an F1 score of 0.535

    Game-theoretical approach for task allocation problems with constraints

    The distributed task allocation problem, as one of the most interesting distributed optimization challenges, has received considerable research attention recently. Previous works mainly focused on the task allocation problem in a population of individuals, where there are no constraints for affording task amounts. The latter condition, however, cannot always be hold. In this paper, we study the task allocation problem with constraints of task allocation in a game-theoretical framework. We assume that each individual can afford different amounts of task and the cost function is convex. To investigate the problem in the framework of population games, we construct a potential game and calculate the fitness function for each individual. We prove that when the Nash equilibrium point in the potential game is in the feasible solutions for the limited task allocation problem, the Nash equilibrium point is the unique globally optimal solution. Otherwise, we also derive analytically the unique globally optimal solution. In addition, in order to confirm our theoretical results, we consider the exponential and quadratic forms of cost function for each agent. Two algorithms with the mentioned representative cost functions are proposed to numerically seek the optimal solution to the limited task problems. We further perform Monte Carlo simulations which provide agreeing results with our analytical calculations

    Neuroprotective Effects of Ischemic Preconditioning on Global Brain Ischemia through Up-Regulation of Acid-Sensing Ion Channel 2a

    Transient forebrain or global ischemia induces cell death in vulnerable CA1 pyramidal neurons. A brief period of ischemia, i.e., ischemic preconditioning, affords CA1 neurons robust protection against a subsequent, more prolonged ischemic challenge. Using the four-vessel occlusion model, we established an ischemic preconditioning model in which rodents were subjected to 3 min of sublethal ischemia 48 h before a 15 min lethal ischemia. We showed that preconditioning attenuated the ischemia-induced neural cell death and DNA fragmentation in the hippocampal CA1 region. RT-PCR and western blot analysis showed that preconditioning prior to an ischemic insult significantly increased ASIC 2a mRNA and protein expression in comparison to the ischemic insult alone (p < 0.01). These findings implicate a new role of ASIC 2a on endogenous neuroprotection from ischemic insult

    Study on the mechanism of surfactant flooding: Effect of betaine structure

    In order to elucidate the oil displacement mechanism of micro-emulsions formed by different betaines at pore throats, this study selected three betaine surfactants with different hydrophobic branched chains for a microscopic visualization oil displacement experiment. The interfacial tension, dilational modulus, interactions of oil droplets, and apparent viscosity of the emulsions were measured. Besides, the microscopic oil displacement mechanism and oil displacement effects of different betaines in homogeneous and heterogeneous models were investigated. The results revealed the beneficial interfacial activity and viscosity enhancement effects of the three betaine solutions. With the increase in the branched degree of betaines, the strength of interfacial films and the viscosity enhancement effect decreases. In the homogeneous model, betaine solutions emulsify crude oil into droplets with strong interfacial films. The in-situ plugging effect improves oil recovery and the sweep efficiency in the pore throats, and the remaining oil is mainly in the form of droplets. As the branched degree increases, the strength of the interfacial films and the oil recovery decline. In the heterogeneous model, the plugging effect enhances the pore structure heterogeneity. The three betaine solutions can increase the sweep efficiency but the displacement solutions only migrate along the dominant pathway within the sweep range.     Eriodictyol attenuates spinal cord injury by activating Nrf2/HO-1 pathway and inhibiting NF-κB pathway

    Purpose: To investigate the effect of eriodictyol on spinal cord injury (SCI) and its underlying mechanism of action.Methods: Thirty Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to sham, SCI, and eriodictyol-treated groups (SCI + Eri; 10, 20, and 50 mg/kg). Moderate spinal cord contusion injury was induced to model SCI. Locomotor recovery was assessed based on Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan (BBB) score. Pain wasevaluated by paw withdrawal threshold (PWT) and latency (PWL), and spinal cord water content was measured. Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) expression were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and reverse transcriptase quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Immunoassay was used to determine malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-PX) levels while Western blotting was employed to evaluate nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB), and phosphorylated NF-κB (p-NF-κB) levels.Results: Eriodictyol elevated BBB score, PWT, and PWL in SCI rats but reduced spinal cord water content (p &lt; 0.05). Eriodictyol treatment down-regulated TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and MDA, whereas SOD, GSH, and GSH-PX levels were elevated (p &lt; 0.05). Eriodictyol administration increased Nrf2 and HO-1 levels but reduced p-NF-κB/NF-κB.Conclusion: This study provides a potential therapy to promote long-term functional recovery following SCI.
